 Leap Frog Leapster

Hello all. I am really excited to see some of the comments I have been recieving from my post. They have been awesome and I am really glad to have instilled in some people the whole idea of the cell phone. In regards to the one comment I recieved on humans being wired into taking the “easy route,” I 100% agree. And with all the technology now facing everyone today, it just makes it easier. I mean prime example, with digital cameras I mean you used to have to drive the film to the photo place to get it developed. With digital cameras, you can just as easily upload them onto say Superstore’s or Lond Drugs’ website and send them to the photoplace AND recieve an email when they are ready for you to pick up. Hell, if you don’t want to pick them up, for a small price they will mail them to you. It seems everything today definately encourages ppl to sit on their behind.

I was also asked by one if I felt the advanced technology in regards to my first post about auditory books would have an impact on literacy over time. Absolutely. I have a hard time thinking about how it can not. Everything else is beginning to change I can not see why literacy would be any different. I mean the Leap Frog pads you can buy may be beneficial to younger readers and I absolutely think that auditory books helps those who are disadvantaged (i.e., the blind) but part of me wonders if it will remain with the people who actually need it or will it be one of those things that the rest of society somehow gets a grasp on and takes advantage of.

Another issue which will need to be raised eventually and raises questions for me is the advancements in technology and how much time parents spend with their kids. Its sooo easy to put them on the computer or plop them down in front of the TV (as was discussed in class). Is the technology we have today and the technology we will have in the future going to take away from the time parents will spend with their kids. I think the Leap Frog is a prime example. Who needs parents to help you learn how to read when they can get you hooked up to the TV and have a computer program do it for them? Until next time….

We are so dialed in to everything else, it’s kind of weird.

Do you ever grow old of the easy? I could heat up some pre-cooked food my freezer, or I could make some sauce and boil some pasta and work for my food. I could listen to digital music on my laptop/iPod, but I throw some vinyl on. I think you catch my drift.

I hope that humans eventually get bored with everything being so easy, and scale back a bit.

p.s Did you notice that since the invention of the washer and dryer, there really hasn’t been many technological advancements to make it easier?

Hey, this Jillian? Well HEY!

I hear where you are coming from when you say parents are spending less time with their kids. Kids seem to be glued to technology these days, especially in the school classrooms too. Years ago, there used to be few if any computers in classrooms. Nowadays, classrooms are often filled with computers and it’s also guaranteed that some kids know more about technology than their parents generation. I think eventually there will even come a point when student’s in schools will no longer use books. There are probably classrooms experimenting with the idea as we speak. Image a classroom where there are no books, just technological machines and gadgets. Personally, I don’t really like the idea of that. Some technology in the classroom would probably be beneficial to students, but I think no more books on paper etc would be over doing it. Although who knows where the future is headed with the Ipod-Facebook-MSN generation.
